Newly Engaged AND Covid

What you may not have thought about…

This has been the most surreal 4 months. I have been in the Austin wedding & event scene since early 2006. I have seen a lot but nothing compares to this. Our industry has been hit hard and so have most industries in the hospitality genre. I have watched social media and honestly I have had to step away at times. I have tried to keep in the loop with what the governor says mixed with what Austin’s mayor is doing which mixes with Travis County (where we are located). In all honesty, it’s been a crazy concoction of WTF!!! So much mixed information and mixed signals makes your head spin. But that is a topic for a different blog post that may have to wait until more time has passed to process all that has and is happening.

What I do want to post about is something I am not really seeing addressed much.

Being newly engaged and finding a date in 2021.

I can only speak for our space but over the last couple of weeks, our re-scheduled Spring 2020 couples along with our Fall 2020 couples have started moving to 2021 for various reasons pertaining to Covid. And what that means is an ever dwindling availability for a Saturday in 2021.

I’ve heard some horror stories of venues not allowing reschedules or restricting to weekdays and we honestly could not do that to our clients. We have, to date, had 32 changes. Some unfortunately were full cancellations & others are on their second re-schedule. Can you say LOGISTICAL NIGHTMARE!!! However, we want to do everything we possibly can to not add extra stress. It’s a tough spot for them and for us but we have to have faith that our efforts will not be for nothing.

So what is my advice to the newly engaged couple…

If you want to get married in 2021 don’t wait to get something booked.

However, if you want to do an intimate gathering in the year of Covid, you may actually find some primo fall dates that are now open.

The most important question is….

What is your main goal?

  • Do you just want to marry to your best friend and whoever feels comfortable attending is icing on the cake?

  • Do you want to marry your best friend however it just wouldn’t be the same without all those you love there in person?

Ultimately, no one should decide that for you or make you feel guilty for whichever way you feel. A marriage is about two people connecting their lives to traverse this crazy world together. The decision on how & when, is totally up to you as a couple.

REMEMBER:

Right now, we are all living a surreal & unprecedented human experience shared across the globe and

LOVE will prevail long past 2020.

SUPER BIG HUGS,

Morgan
